A Facebook(R) friend recently posted the link to an article about high school kids in Colorado “Pledging Allegiance” in Arabic…and to “Allah”. She asks: “Do you comprehend the indoctrination taking place here???” I believe she’s thinking: Here’s one more proof that public schools are anti-Christian. Don’t get me wrong: I agree The Pledge is indoctrination all right; it’s just that I smell indoctrination of a different flavor.
So, WWtFFD? First, the rightfully admired Founding Fathers were a down-to-earth bunch. They pledged concretes to concretes. As in, their LIVES (concrete), FORTUNES (concrete), and sacred HONOR (history/record of personal actions and interactions, also concrete)…to EACH OTHER (concrete). They did not “pledge” those first three, the summation of their entire Being, to a rectangle of cloth!
That’s idol-worship my religious friends.
But think deeper than that, my worried-about-Allah-replacing-God in (government-) school friends. Would the Founding Fathers (and Mothers!), even in their weakest moments, have sent their kids to the oh-so-conveniently-located, totally “FREE,” King George III Academies and then acted shocked, shocked I say, at all the monarchist worshipping inside those hallowed halls? Why not? Could it be they kept up to speed on such things and wouldn’t have wanted their kiddos “pledging ALLEGIANCE” (i.e. Heil George), or performing any other such obsequious nonsense to the Union Jack (as if it was sacred), not to mention being indoctrinated for the remainder of the school day (then even at home, drowned in “homework” rather than enjoying family life)? Damn straight they wouldn’t choose to have their precious progeny inculcated into the ways, means, and history-as-written-by a tyrant and an oppressive oligarchic System they despised a little more every day.
And that’s why the Founders would have either run in the opposite direction of such blood-money funded academies (never forget: taxes ARE earnings confiscated by well-armed State-uniformed “agents”) or stood their ground and boycotted them.
Consider again the photo, above, and the millions of public school students doing the very same pledge, whether in your god’s name or someone else’s; whether in English or Spanish or Arabic. In the end they’ve all faced the very same rectangle of meaningless CLOTH. They’ve all pledged their LIVES to a symbol. Do they know how much they will be required to pay and WHO will thereby profit from their ever-growing, mostly unquestioning loyalty to this SYMBOL of State POWER?
